Hessle & Anlaby Food Bank
Published: 01 November 2022
The food bank has seen a continual increase in demand since it was set up in April 2020. The number of people finding themselves in financial difficulties as a result of the economic effects of the COVID pandemic seems to be constantly increasing and we are sure we have not yet seen the worst. With the vaccination process now well underway it does look like there is some light at the end of the tunnel, and people are starting to feel more optimistic about the future, but the effects on businesses have been accumulating and it will take some time for the recovery to gain momentum. In the meantime redundancies and job losses are likely to continue to increase. In the last newsletter we reported that the Food Bank was distributing an average of around 30 food parcels to around 70 people per week. This has now increased to between 50 and 60 food parcels per week and continues to increase.
Our thanks, as always, go to all of our many donors and of course our dedicated volunteers who continue to come out in all weathers to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as it does.
