Anlaby with Anlaby Common Parish Council Meeting
Published: 11 July 2025
Officers from our local Policing Team based at Kirk Ella Police Station gave an update to our meeting yesterday. Crime remains low in the area. They are aware of the recent trend in relation Anti-Social Behaviour – particularly youngsters on electric bikes who disguise their identify.
They have dealt with some very recently, after they were identified, including seizing their machines - but are asking for all of us to help.
Due to the way the riders wear non-descript dark clothing and face coverings the Police have difficulty in definitively identifying who the culprits are. They naturally have their suspects, knowing our local community, but need more definitive information.
Firstly, they are asking for everyone to report issues with such youths on bikes, please don’t ignore this behaviour. Through both social media and when traveling around the area it is clear this is a regular occurrence but the Police are getting very few reports to act upon. This means police resources are directed elsewhere.
Secondly, they are asking for us to help identify who the culprits are. So, if you have sound information as to who these kids are, where they live or who they associate with please call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and provide the information.
Modified electric bikes and scooters are illegal and the police have powers to seize and crush them.
Lastly, they reminded us that the Police have a policy of not pursuing those on bikes when they are not wearing helmets. This is due to public safety concerns and recent well publicised cases involving fatalities. As a result, they are reliant on intelligence to act after the fact to deal with the offenders.
