St Peter's Church Clock Tower Update
            Published: 16 September 2025
Following a specialist inspection, the external ladder used to access the clock mechanism was found to be unsafe and has been removed.  Unfortunately, there’s no alternative way to reach the clock for servicing, and the site and building layout prevents use of equipment like cherry pickers.
As a result, the clock and strike mechanisms have been temporarily disabled.  The church has secured the necessary approvals from the Diocese, and as part of the conditions, the clock hands are being carefully removed and stored to protect the mechanism during this period.
Reinstating access will take time, as any new solution must meet modern safety standards, secure planning permission, and be fully funded.  In the meantime, the tower remains a proud local landmark.  St Peter's is grateful for your understanding and continued support.
